Learning Behavior Specialist Endorsement

This non-degree, in-person program is designed for current educators to gain the knowledge and skills needed to give students with disabilities opportunities to fully develop their intellectual and social capabilities.

The Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS I) Endorsement program is designed for teachers who are:

  1. Employed currently and interested in earning their LBS I endorsement in a flexible format - evening classes.
  2. Interested in working with students with disabilities at the grade range their license is administered.

Upon completion of the endorsement coursework, candidates will have the option to complete additional coursework to receive a Master of Arts in Education degree.

Course Descriptions

Requirements

A person may apply for the Learning Behavior Specialist endorsement upon satisfactory completion of the prescribed curriculum while maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0.

  1. Candidate must hold a valid Professional Educator License (PEL).
  2. Candidate must pass the Learning Behavior Specialist content test.

Time to Complete

Approximately 3-4 semesters

SPED 664 Curriculum and Methods for Students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities 3

In addition to the above curriculum, one of the following:
*SPED 654   Academic Methods for Early Childhood-Elementary Level Students with Disabilities (for candidates with an elementary endorsement on their license)

SPED 655   Academic Methods for Middle and Secondary Level Students with Disabilities (2 credit hours) (for candidates with a secondary endorsement on their license)
